Another Gig in life
Fifty Two 80 is a very classy bar and bistro. It is in the only 5-diamond-rated resort hotel in Canada. This is Ali's regular gig. The mountain opened early on the weekend with a metre of snow at the top, so Ali was moved to an Apres ski schedule, 4:30 to 7:30 every Friday and Saturday. The lights are dim and the place is busy. There are a couple of gay guys in the corner who have been back several weeks in a row. They love Ali. There is a table full of young business people who stop talking every time she starts a new number. There is a couple from San Francisco on their first visit to Whistler. They sit through all 3 sets. There is another forty-something couple who said to Ali after the gig, "thankyou for making us fall in love again." A group of snow boarders come in. You can tell they are snow boarders because they are all wearing toques and the crotch of their pants hang at half mast. They are charming and invite Ali to sit with them during her breaks. Just another gig in life...
The Amazing Party
It's not often that a community gets the word that the federal government has set aside some money to throw a party! Ali performed for a reception at Whistler's Millennium Place last week. Minister Emerson was there in person. The money if it is awarded is for an amazing party that will last for the whole 2010 Olympic Games at the live site. Ali has performed a few times already for Olympic announcements.
here's hoping she'll be invited to the real thing!
